Nellie Mae Stewart, nee Kirkman, of Cuba, MO was born on Saturday, August 26, 1933, in Bernie, MO to Ivan Kirkman and Ruth Kirkman (nee Paris). She passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Meramec Nursing Center in Sullivan, MO at the age of 89 years, 3 months, and 18 days.
Nellie attended school in Dexter, MO. She worked for Brown Shoe Company in Owensville, MO for several years and then for Cuba Shoe Company in Cuba, MO. She married the love of her life, Donald O. Stewart on March 07, 1972, in Orange, TX. Nellie worked alongside her husband, Don raising and tending cattle for fifty years. She also handled all the billing and bookwork for their company, Stewart Trucking, even helping Don fix trucks when needed. She had accepted the Lord as her personal Savior and was a member of First Baptist Church of Cuba, MO. She always had beautiful vegetable gardens and canned everything she grew. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents Ivan and Ruth Kirkman; parents-in-law Oran and Eva Mae Stewart; husband Don Stewart; children Donna (Bob) Green and Mike Leathers; sisters Louise (Robert) Black and Sharon Kirkman; brother Jack Kirkman; brothers-in-law Dick (Judy) Stewart and Bruce Brown.
Nellie is survived by her sons Mark (Cindy) Leathers and Joe (Judy) Leathers both of Cuba, MO; sisters Sue (Bob) Murphy of Jefferson City, MO and Jo Ann Risse of Dexter, MO; sisters-in-law Sandy Stewart and Sue Brown both of Cuba, MO; grandchildren Mardy Leathers of Jefferson City, MO, Cody (Karisa) Leathers, Justin (Megan) Leathers and Jody (David) Minardi all of Cuba, MO; 8 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A private funeral and burial service was held.
