Nina Anita Greig, nee Goodson, of Steelville, MO was born on Sunday, November 05, 1933 in Belgrade, MO to John Goodson and Goldie Delight Gregory Goodson. She passed away at Steelville Living Center, Steelville, MO on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 25 days.
Nina was a long time resident of Steelville, MO. Her father, John passed away when she was a baby. Her mother later married Roy Joho who helped raise her. After she was taken out of school at an early age, she went back and earned her GED. Nina went to cosmetology school, then owned and operated a beauty shop out of her home for many years. She married the love of her life, Jona Robert Greig on August 5, 1956 at First Baptist Church in Steelville, MO and to this union they had five daughters: Mary, Barbara, Beverly, Carolyn and Nancy. Nina and Jona owned and operated Greig Grocery Store from 1968 until 1981 when it sold. Nina and Jona were blessed with almost 50 years of marriage before his passing in 2005. She was a people person, loved fashion, was always dressed to impress and enjoyed dressing up her darling daughters. Nina accepted the Lord as her personal Savior early in life and was an active member of First Baptist Church in Steelville, MO for over 40 years. While active in church, she helped with the youth in GA’s, Sunday school, choir, memorial camp and VBS. She volunteered her time at Gibbs Care Center, and was a 4H Leader who helped with foods, cooking and sewing. She was a member of the Martha and Mary Chapter #364. She also was a member of the Eastern Star for over 16 years where she held the position of Worthy Matron in 1979. She was Town Alderman and enjoyed working on projects within the community such as tuck-pointing and painting the Steelville Library and children’s playground at the park. She loved to travel and had visited the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Spain, Italy, London England and South America. She enjoyed watching western movies, telling stories, eating ice cream and she adored her dog, Periot. Most of all, Nina loved spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her father John Goodson; parents Goldie and Roy Joho; husband Jona Greig; parents-in-law J.C. and Ruth Greig; daughter Beverly Sterling; sisters-in-law Majorie (Maxwell) Weaver and Maxine (Henry) Aiken; and son-in-law James B. Little, III
Nina is survived by her children Mary Gegg (Kenneth Preston) of Augusta, GA, Barbara Little of Autaugaville, AL, Carolyn (Keith) Clark and Nancy Huskey both of Steelville, MO; son-in-law Dave Sterling of Steelville, MO; grandchildren Amy (Stanton) Hayden of Elizabethton, TN, Kimberly Preston and Kendall Preston both of Augusta, GA, Douglas Little of Autaugaville, AL, Tina Arndt of Elkhart, IN, Robert Arndt of North Hollywood, CA, Lauren (Brad) Kreitner and Cheyenne Pitts both of Steelville, MO, and Lacy Sterling of Columbia, MO; great grandchildren Garbrielle, Elijah, Faye, Taj, Mariah, Brian, Skylar, Emma, Abby, Khloe, Blake, Carson and Aiden; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Visitation was from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM on Tuesday, February 08, 2022 at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO. Funeral Service immediately followed at 12:00 PM with Pastor Rick Haggett officiating. Burial was at St. James City Cemetery, St. James, MO.
