Noel "Jack" Alexander Obituary

Noel Kenneth “Jack” Alexander was born on Friday, May 1, 1936 in Cherryville, MO to William Ray and Koradine C. Smith Alexander.  He passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at Phelps County Hospital at the age of 84 years and 6 months.

Jack grew up in the Edgar Springs area where he attended grade school at West Point Phelps County and then graduated from Rolla High School in 1954. During high school Jack worked at the Rolla Bakery for 1/2 of the day and then in the lube area of Asher Jones Car Dealer. After high school, he worked for Tucker Dairy before becoming owner of Jack’s Conoco station across from Uptown Theatre in downtown Rolla. After he sold the station he worked for J.C. Penny until he moved to Kansas City where he worked for Sysco Foods for 23 years.

In 1955, Jack married Della Faye Martin and to this union one son, Doug was born. After moving to Kansas City he met and married Arlene Holum in December, 1966, and they shared family and life together for 54 years.

As a young man Jack had horses, and along with his parents enjoyed going on trail rides. He always had a love for cars. He was into drag racing in the late 50s and was most known for his white 57 Chevrolet with a red interior. Jack raced go carts when that was all the rage. He enjoyed going to stock car races with friends.

Jack made a public profession of faith and was baptized by his Dad in Newburg, MO. Later he rededicated his life at Norfleet Baptist Church in Independence, MO and was baptized with Arlene under the ministry of Pastor Lee Mosby. He was a good friend with his neighbor Earl Brinley and the two couples attended church together at First Southern Baptist Church in Leasburg. Later Jack and Arlene were members of First Baptist of Cuba.

Jack owned Harley Davidson motorcycles and he and Arlene enjoyed touring the US and into Canada. They enjoyed working together in the yard, in the business and traveling.

Jack was an outgoing people person who never met a stranger. He loved to visit and spend time in the coffee shop.

When Jack moved back to Cuba, MO in 1987, he opened Alexander Muffler and Brake and worked as partners with his son Doug until his retirement in 2001. In retirement, Jack and Arlene traveled and wintered in Texas close to their kids and grandkids as long as their health permitted.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, wife Arlene, son Jonnie Dale Johnson, daughter Kyle Gwen Gross, and brother in law Charles Keith Miller.

He is survived by his sons, Doug Alexander and wife Donna of Rolla, MO and Timothy Johnson and wife Diane of Kansas City, MO; daughters, Vikki Nowling of Houston, TX, and Nancy Gambrel of Kingwood, TX.; sisters Donna Miller of Springfield, MO and Debbie Templeton and husband Bob of Hickory, NC; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
