Robert "Bob" Wilson Obituary

Robert "Bob" D. Wilson of Cuba, MO was born on Saturday, May 20,1933, to H. R. Wilson and Susan Fay Eye Wilson in Shirley, MO.  He passed away at his residence in Cuba, MO on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at the age of 88 years, 4 months, and 26 days.

He and his family moved to De Soto, MO when he was young.  He graduated from De Soto High School in 1951.  During high school and for a short time after graduating, he worked for Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Crystal City.  He then enlisted in the United States Air Force in March of 1953 during the Korean War.  After 4 years of being stationed in Hawaii, he was honorably discharged in March of 1957. Shortly after coming home, he attended Rolla School of Mines (now MO S & T). While there, he met the love of his life, Marilyn F Munzert.  They were married at Unity Lutheran Church in St. Louis, MO on July 19, 1958, and to this union 3 children were born.  They recently celebrated 63 years of marriage.

While in college, a job opportunity arose that directed his career path.  He bought J.J. Construction and built many homes in Indian Hills. He opened Mid-State Lumber Company in Cuba, MO in the mid 1960’s.  Later, mainly to benefit his own construction company, he began Mid-Mo Truss. After a while, it became a separate entity he and his family operated.  He owned United Redi-Mix a short while.  He built and owned Fountain Place and Hickory Place Apartments as well as built and developed the Village at Four Condominiums.

Bob accepted the Lord when he was in his 20’s.  He and Marilyn were members of Concordia Lutheran Church in Bourbon, MO.  They lived in Crawford County all their married life and raised their family in Cuba. In later years, they spent their winters in Florida. Bob loved fishing in his boat in the Gulf of Mexico when they lived on a canal in Marco Island. When they moved to a home on Lake Placid, he would fish every day with his buddies on the lake. He loved to have his family visit and spend time with them in Florida during the winter months. When back home in Cuba during the rest of the year, he enjoyed riding four-wheelers on his property and tending to his vegetable gardens and cattle.  He loved the land and his cows who he called his “girls”. He also enjoyed collecting and driving classic cars and going to car shows.

Over the years, with his wit and love of country, Bob created and wrote comics for his companies’ advertisements and for the local newspaper.  He was well known for “Stirrin’ the Pot”. Bob lived life to the fullest.  He loved his family and friends and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents H.R. and Susan Eye Wilson; parents-in-law John and Wilma June Wehmeier Munzert; sister Ruth Adams; brother Monte "Lyn" (Juanita) Wilson; and brothers-in-law Vernon Heslep and Jim Hoogland.
