Ruth Emma (Eaton) Garms

Ruth Emma Garms, nee Eaton, of Steelville, MO, was born on Saturday, August 25, 1928 in Keysville, MO to William Asaro Eaton and Lucy Anna  Eaton, nee Cassidy.  She passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Steelville Senior Living at the age of 94 years, 10 months and 28 days.

Ruth was a lifelong Crawford County resident.  She accepted the Lord at an early age and attended Elayer Pentecostal Church in Steelville, MO.  She married Raymond Adolf Garms on March 18, 1976 in Cuba, MO.  They owned and operated the R & R General Store on the corner of Highways 8 and BB where they sold groceries originally and then turned it into a thrift store.  Ruth and Raymond also built and operated the R & R Arena in Steelville, MO. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, fishing, deer hunting, and processing deer.  Ruth was especially fond of her dog, a large loyal terrier named “Buddy.”  She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Lucy Eaton; parents-in-law Henry & Essie Garms; husband Raymond Garms; son Winford Cowell Sellers; step-sons Joe Garms and Danny Garms; daughter-in-law Wilma Sellers; siblings Gordon "Ott" Eaton, Harry (Marie) Eaton, Pete (Zelma) Eaton, Bill (Ina) Eaton, LeRoy "Red" (Pauline) Eaton, John (Erma) Eaton, Eula (Art) Counts, Betty Eaton, Beulah Eaton, Hazel (Bob) Huff and two infant sisters; brothers-in-law Jay (Betty) Garms, Larry Garms, Earl Garms and Fred (Hattie) Garms.

She is survived by her children Homer "DeWayne" Sellers and Lindell Gene (Anita) Sellers both of Steelville, MO; stepchildren Ray "Butch" (Janet)  Garms, Jr. of IL and Laura Hill of Columbia, MO; sisters-in-law Joyce Garms and Georgia Garms both of Steelville, MO; 9 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation was from 11 AM - 1 PM on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO.  Funeral Service immediately followed at 1 PM with Pastor Jerry Beers officiating.  Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Steelville, MO.
