Shirley Rose Wehmeier nee Gohlke of St. Clair, MO, formerly of Cuba, MO was born on Thursday, May 4, 1939, in St. Louis, MO to George Frederick Gohlke and Merle Alice (nee Wilson) Gohlke. She passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Washington, MO at the age of 82 years, 10 months, and 13 days.
Shirley graduated from Central High School, St. Louis, MO. She worked as a Medical Secretary for 30 plus years at Deaconess Hospital, St. Louis, MO until retirement. Shirley married the love of her life, Donald Frederick Wehmeier, Sr. on August 4, 1982 at First Baptist Church, Riverview Gardens. They were married 32 years and enjoyed traveling together. Shirley especially loved going on cruises where she visited the Caribbean islands and Alaska and she also had traveled to Ireland. She liked to go to the casinos and play the slot machines.
She had accepted the Lord at an early age and attended Trinity Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star carrying the titles of Worthy Matron for 14 years, District Deputy Grand Matron 2002, and Grand Electa of the state of Missouri in 2006. In the Eastern Star organization, she traveled to eight states to attend annual Grand Chapters. Other hobbies included playing cards, Bingo, Mexican Train Dominos, and collecting bells. She played Bingo 2-3 nights a week and usually won.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Donald Wehmeier; parents George and Merle Gohlke; parents-in-law Lester and Adeline Wehmeier; and son-in-law Michael Beach.
She is survived by her daughter Kathy Beach formerly of Cuba, MO; stepsons Donald Frederick (Amy) Wehmeier, Jr. of Union, MO and Wayne Edward (Debbie) Wehmeier of Hampton, NE; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation was at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, MO from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM on Monday, March 21, 2022. Eastern Star Ceremony was at 12:00 PM. Funeral Service immediately followed with Pastor Donna Schiro officiating. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery, Cuba, MO.
