Sidney Junior Ransom

Sidney Junior Ransom was born on Tuesday, June 16, 1942 in Steelville, MO to Virgil Elmer Ransom and Blanche Ransom, nee Barton and was raised by his grandmother, Margaret Ransom from the age of 3 months.  He passed away at his daughter’s home in Rolla, MO on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at the age of 81 years and 20 days.

Sidney attended and graduated from Steelville High School.    Sidney enlisted in the Army National Guard of Missouri on December 2, 1963, and was honorably discharged on December 1, 1969.  He married the love of his life Cecelia Ann Hutson on October 31, 1964, in Leasburg, MO and two children were born to this union.  He worked 30 years as an electrician for Brown Shoe Company.  He later worked for Pea Ridge Mines and Aerofill in Sullivan, MO. Sidney accepted the Lord at a Sites Camp in Butts, MO and was later baptized at First Baptist Church, Steelville, MO when he was around 12 or 13 years old.  Recently he had been attending the Steelville First Assembly. He was often found tinkering with lawn mowers and small engines.  He enjoyed gardening and flowers.  He loved being outside riding his John Deere tractor and spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Blanche Ransom; stepmother Mildred Ransom, nee Dicus; grandmother Margaret Ransom; brother Wilber Ransom; sister Janet Chandler; brothers-in-law Robert Hutson, Edward Conaway, Bob Phenix, and Ben DeClue; sisters-in-law Edith (William “Dave”) Cornick, Grace Rodgers, Gail Hutson, Marion Hutson, Brenda Hutson, Dovie “Mae” Conaway, Patricia Ogle, Laurie Ransom, and Berniece Dierking; and grandchild T.J. Barton. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Cecelia Ransom of Steelville, MO; children Tony (Norma) Ransom of Steelville, MO and Stacy (Mike) Rabe of Rolla, MO; siblings Johnny Ransom and Bonnie (Sonnie) Haffer both of Steelville, MO;  brothers-in-law  and sisters-in-law  Howard Hutson and Elizabeth “Liz” Phenix both of Steelville, MO, Rainey Hutson and Cleo Chandler  both of Cuba, MO, Ervin Dierking and Jim Rodgers both of Sullivan, MO,  and Mary Hutson of Berryman, MO; grandchildren Alex Ransom, Brittany Nicole Ransom, Brent Rabe, Ransom Rabe, Steven Duffy, and Margaret Barton; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends

Visitation was from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM on Monday, July 10, 2023, at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO.  Funeral Service immediately followed at 12:00 PM with Rev.  Jerry Beers officiating and was lived-streamed on Hutson Funeral Home Steelville, MO’s Facebook page.  Burial was at Steelville Cemetery with full military honors.  Memorials were suggested to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
