Tom Brooks, Sr. Obituary

Tommy “Tom” Gene Brooks, Sr. of Steelville, MO was born on Thursday, December 19, 1957 in St. Louis, MO to Charles “Charlie” Thomas Brooks and Billie “Jean” (Aden) Brooks.  He passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO at the age of 62 years, 8 months and 8 days.

Tom grew up and in Florissant, MO until he and his family moved to Steelville in 1972.  He ran cross country in 7th and 8th grade and was one of the fastest runners on his team.  It was during that time, he met his childhood sweetheart, Brenda, who would later become his wife.  While in high school he went to Vo-Tech in Rolla for auto body work and received numerous awards, including winning State.  He graduated from Steelville High School in May of 1977 then married Brenda Lou Harmon on July 16 to this union two children were born.

Tom was a jack of all trades.  He and his brothers helped at his father’s shop, Seven Cedars Auto Body. It was there that he built a notorious purple charger with flames that he used to drag race against Tom Murray and Randy Bell (to name a few).  Later Tom and his dad opened Seven Cedars Satellite, and installed some of the first TV satellites in the state.  He and his son-in-law, Kerry Jr “Spank”, opened their own business, S & B Construction, for 10 years.  Tom worked hurricane disasters, including the Hurricane Katrina aftermath.  He continued doing construction on his own until he took a job with MSC in St. James, MO as a truck driver until his health began to fail.

Tom had accepted the Lord as his Savior.  He was a member of the Upper Meramec Bass Club and the American Bowling Association.  He loved the outdoors and to hunt, fish and camp.   He especially enjoyed taking his grandchildren hunting and fishing.  Tom and Brenda would spend almost every weekend with Danny and Melinda Medlock, either camping or going out to eat, and joked with the ladies that they needed a restaurant called, “I Don’t Care” since that’s what they’d say when asked where to go.  He enjoyed bowling, and played on many leagues where he and his team won many patches and trophies.  More than anything, Tom loved his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Brooks; parents-in-law Jim and Deloris “Dodie” Harmon and granddaughter Sadie Renee Summers.

He is survived by his mother Jean Brooks of Steelville, MO; wife of 42 years Brenda Brooks of Steelville, MO; children Tommy (Heidi) Brooks of San Diego, CA and Becky (Kerry Jr.) Summers of Steelville, MO; grandchildren Kensi Brooks of San Diego, CA, Madison (Joshua) Warren of St. James, MO, Bryer Summers, Hunter Summers and Paislee Summers all of Steelville, MO; great granddaughters Peyton and Haylee Warren of St. James, MO; brothers Ricky (Anita) Brooks and Danny (Lisa) Brooks both of Steelville, MO; sister-in-law Valanna (Gene) Garms of Steelville, MO; sisters-in-law Barb (Larry) Martin of Steelville and Linda (Derrick) Douros of Charleston, IL; brother-in-law and Jimmy (Susan) Harmon of Steelville, MO; special fishing brother Dennis Gillam of Steelville, MO; special bowling partner Robbie Brooks of Steelville, MO; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
