Obituary
Verla Jean Brown, nee Hedgcoth, of Steelville, MO was born on Friday, June 8, 1945 in Black, MO to Ira Elmer Hedgcoth and Goldie Pearl Hedgcoth, nee Woolf. She passed away at her home on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at the age of 78 years, 1 month and 12 days.
Verla attended Valley High School. She married the love of her life, David J. Brown, on November 30, 1967 in Steelville, MO and together had four children. Verla enjoyed sewing and had her own business, Brown’s Upholstery, for 20 years. She did contract sewing, quiliting and embroidery work. Verla liked to travel, hunt and fish. Most of all, Verla loved her family and spending time with them.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ira and Goldie Hedgcoth; parents-in-law Howard and Virginia Brown; infant son Larry Eugene Fox; siblings James Robert Hedgcoth, Edna "Marie" (Colin) Copeland, Jessie (Robert "Bob") Crocker, Willis Calvin Hedgcoth, Earl Eugene Hedgcoth and infant Marvin Hedgcoth; brothers-in-law Larry Holtz and Howard "Junior" Brown; infant brother-in-law Robert Brown; sister-in-law Glenda Hedgcoth; granddaughter Courtney Rochelle Brown.
Verla is survived by her husband of 55 years, David Brown of Steelville, MO; children Jeffery Fox and Bret (Georgie) Brown both of Davisville, MO and Jerry Fox of Ellington, MO; brother Donald Hedgcoth of Bonne Terre, MO and Hershel (Brenda) Hedgcoth of East End, MO; sister Verna Catherine Holtz of Cuba, MO; brothers-in-law Jack (Vicki) Brown and Terry Brown both of Davisville, MO; sisters-in-law Betty (Arnold) Abney of Steelville, MO, Josephine Brown of Davisville, MO and Linda Snyder of Benton, MO; grandchildren Ashley (Jeremy) Russell, Ethan Fox, Ely Fox and Ira Fox; 3 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
There was a private graveside service for family only. Burial was at Martin-Trask Cemetery, Cherryville, MO.
