Virginia Farris Obituary

Virginia Grace Farris nee King was born on Wednesday, November 13, 1940, in Butts, MO to Douglas King, Sr and Rosa Bell (nee Eggers) King.  She passed away in Cuba, MO on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at the age of 81 years, 2 months and 26 days.

She grew up in rural Crawford County on a farm around the Butts area.  She accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at an early age.  She married the love of her life, James Benjamin “Ben” Farris, on April 20, 1957, and to this union four children were born.

Virginia drove a school bus for the Bourbon R-I School District for approximately 5 years and then for the Cuba R-II School District for over 20 years.  She attended almost all her children’s and many of her grandchildren’s sporting and band events through the years, and usually drove the bus full of students for the away events as well.  She was devoted to her family and fed them well.  Her children said she was an excellent cook with her fried chicken and sausage, biscuits and gravy on the wood cook stove being a couple of their favorites. She canned vegetables out of her garden and always brought lunch to her husband, children and the whole crew when they were out working in the hayfields. One hobby she enjoyed other than attending to her family was watching the St. Louis Cardinals. She was very much loved by her children and grandchildren and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents Douglas and Rosa King; parents-in-law Fred and Julie Farris; husband Ben Farris; brothers Douglas (Cleo) King, Jr., Jack King, Buster King, and James (Sue) King; sister Lorene (Don) Brush; and brother-in-law Arthur Gormley.

Virginia is survived by her children Gary Farris, Larry (Sandra) Farris, and Jerry Farris all of Cuba, MO and Twila Farris and husband Eddie Metcalf of Grants Pass, OR; sister Rosalea Gormley of Sleeper, MO; brothers Ralph (Debbie) King of Leasburg, MO, Leon (Pat) King of Sullivan, MO, and Wayne (Robin) King of Potosi, MO; daughter-in-law Lori Farris of Union, MO; grandchildren Ben Farris, Rachael Harris (Rob Carmack), Rebecca Farris, and Larry Farris all of Cuba, MO, Codie (Brandon) Hansel of Clover Bottom, MO, and Diedre Farris of Union, MO; 10 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
