Virginia "Ginnie" Marie (Thomas) Center

Virginia "Ginnie" Marie Center, nee Thomas, of St. James, MO and formerly of Steelville, MO, was born on Sunday, November 14, 1937, in Cuba, MO to Robert H. Thomas and Marie Thomas, nee Schwiddie.  She passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Mercy Hospital in Washington, MO at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 17 days.

Ginnie graduated from Cuba High School in the Class of 1955.  She married David Eugene Center on July 18, 1959, in Cuba, MO and to this union a son, Michael, was born.  They moved to St. Louis, MO and returned to Steelville, MO in 1982.  Ginnie loved watching old westerns, gardening, collecting native american and turquoise jewelry.  Ginnie and David loved to travel and would take 2 cruises a year and had visited all 50 states.  Ginnie especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter Heather and loved her time with family.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Marie Thomas; husband, David Center; parents-in-law Virgil and Madge Center, nee Harman; brother, Robert A. Thomas; sister-in-law Shirley Peterson and step great grandson Nathan.

Ginnie is survived by her son, Michael (wife Pat) Center of St. James, MO; granddaughter Heather (husband Tyrone) Popejoy of Topeka, KS; step-grandsons Tony (wife Lisa) Cross of Wentzville, MO and Alan (wife Krissy) Cross of Eureka, MO; 4 step great grandchildren: Adam, Michael, Sarah Marie, Calvin and Ryan; sisters-in-law Dina Thomas of Cuba, MO and Sharon (husband Bill) Payne of Steelville, MO; brother-in-law Sonny Peterson of WY; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family chose cremation as Ginnie's final disposition and will have a private inurnment at Liberty Cemetery in Steelville, MO at a later date.
