William "Bill" Ernest Coffman, of Steelville, MO, was born on Tuesday, November 11, 1930 in Hinch, MO to James Edgar Coffman and Mabel Jane Vance Coffman. He passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Steelville Senior Living Center at the age of 91 years and 21 days.
Bill attended Steelville High School. He enlisted in the United States Army in October of 1948 during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in October of 1951. He worked in the air craft manufacturing industry for 38 years as an electrical maintenance supervisor with McDonnell Douglas. He was a member of Steelville Presbyterian Church in Steelville, MO since 1972 where he was an Elder. Bill married the love of his life, Gloria Lee Sanders on Saturday, February 28, 1953 in Steelville, MO and to this union 6 children were born. He was affiliated with IBEW local 1. He enjoyed working around the house, yardwork, gardening, hunting, assisting with Meals on Wheels, socializing and talking with people at the nursing home. Most of all, he loved his family.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents James and Mabel Coffman; parents-in-law James and Bertha Sanders; sisters Esther (Bob) Jeffries, Waneta (Harry) Rennekamp, Betty (Clarence) Perrige, and Lorene (Bill) Davis; brothers Paul (Mary) Coffman, and “Ed” James Edgar (Loretta) Coffman, Jr.; brothers and sisters in law Bud (Delores) Sanders, Tom (Eileen) Sanders, “JT” Joshua T. (Lila) Sanders, Lena (Harold) Doss, Vernon (Agnes) Sanders, Anita “Pearl” (Art) Krueger, Doris Robertson, and Lois Coffman.
Bill is survived by his wife Gloria Lee Coffman of Steelville, MO; children Carol (Robert) Anderson of O’Fallon, MO, William “Alan” (Cindi) Coffman of Washington, MO, Anita “Cay” (Jerry) Brown of Steelville, MO, Ernest “Jay” (Kelly) Coffman of St. Louis, MO, John (Joan) Coffman of Naples, FL and Joyce Coffman of Quincy, IL; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Visitation was from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM on Friday, December 10, 2021 at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, MO. Memorial Service immediately followed at 11:00 AM. with Rev. Wendy Downing officiating. He chose cremation as his final disposition. Inurnment was at Straightway Baptist Cemetery, Steelville, MO with full military honors.
